July 2020 Art

I am proud of these:

Honestly, I think this is far as I can go with colored pencil.

Realism meets Abstraction

I find myself enjoying some of the occasional fanciful pictures that I draw, especially those that reach from abstract color patterns back towards the real scenes that could have inspired them. I also enjoy the real scenes I do that try to bring out some abstract version of the reality being depicted - simplifying and abstracting.
So perhaps there is something to the idea of a place where realism and abstraction meet - in the ideas of the artist and the 'story' they are depicting. These are things a painting cannot derive from a photograph. The artist must intervene to create objects and colors.

Water, around town

So many people down here on Cape Cod that it is not easy to find a place to park and draw pictures. Also, I am repeating subjects. I remain fascinated with ripples.

Pictures around 103 Gardiner Rd Woods Hole

I go for a while doing mediocre pictures, then do a couple of nicer ones. Immediately I return to doing junk. Seems like I like to do circular objects.
